Add and divide by 2

3/4 + 1/2 = 5/4

5/4 div by 2 = 5/8

give each of the fractions a common denominator that is different from 4 and 2 (like 8)

6/8 and 4/8

so the rational number between these two would obviously be 5/8
This has a decimal equivalent of 0.625
