I've bought an origianl xbox used. I was going to hook it up for xbox live I think that the previous user already installed the software needed that comes in the starter kit, but I'm not sure. Is there a way to tell besides buying a card and trying to play?

Well your going to need a card to play anyway since you don't just upload the info and your done for life. You buy monthly (or yearly) subscriptions for xblive. Theres no way to tell really but maybe theres a month left or something on the account so just hook it up and see if you can play. If you can, thats great. If you can't, o well, just buy it like everyone else.

If they left auto sign-in on, just go to Xbox Live on the dashboard menu. It should automatically sign you in if they left their account on it and left auto sign-in on.
