i just read the 23 enigma things and it said the mayans predicted the world would end on december 23 2012 and a while back i remember reading something about the doomsday clock being 5 minutes before the world ends (the doomsday clock was made by really really smart scientist) so i heard it takes like 5 years to move up 5 minutes on the clock. AND 2012 is only 5 years from now

Chill out, the clock is set forward OR backward in relation to world events . It does not only move forward. It's movements are dictated by the same "really really" smart scientists that invented it.

Well, the Mayans also predict the world will begin on that date, and it's happened before and will happen again, but that's not exciting enough for most people.

The doomsday clock, however, doesn't really tell time, so 5 years could bring it up 5 minutes, down 10, up 4.5, down 15, etc. It discusses how close to wiping outselves out we come.

the mayans do NOT state that the world will end ...
there is a wall with dates (a sun calendar some archaelogists say) ... this is the last date stated ... its doesn't have to mean anything
bare in mind that the wall was made 1000 years ago. To mark a date as far as 1000 years into the future is enough for any calendar don't you think?

also bare in mind that there are other doomsday events due in the following years

the last of the oracles in delphi when asked if Zeus would ever come back to claim his throne (from the Christian God), the oracle answered "essetai imar" (=the day comes/dawns) which was later tranlsated by priests as 23 dec of 2011

(the date was calculated by turning the letters into numbers, ancient greeks used the alphabet both for words and for numbers, ex alpha=1, beta=2...) ...

we're possibly doomed but i seriously doubt it

the whole science of numbers thing is bulls.h.i.t. don't believe the whole number 23 thing or to that end even the whole 666 is evil thing. its all people talking out their a.s.s. the doomsday clock was only made when we were close to nuclear war back in WWII days and during the cuban missile crisis. we don't really use nuclear weapons anymore, so don't i don't worry about humanity wiping itself out through nuclear war, because its a silly thing to worry about right now. we should be more worried about biological weapons- they are far easier to produce and replicate and far easier to spread around a country than nuclear weapons. we should be more worried about ebola, smallpox, or botulism (the most deadly disease known to man) getting released in New York city than we should be about having a worldwide Hiroshima.
