Pink slip refers to the practice, by a personnel department, of including a discharge notice (printed on pink paper) in an employee's pay envelope to notify the worker of his or her termination or lay-off. The term dates from 1915; originally the color of the paper had no particular significance.

A pink slip is just an age old term for getting fired. I have been fired from quite a few jobs (thru no fault of my own, I might add) and have never gotten a pink slip or any slip for that matter. They just make up some crap if they don't likeu and tell u there letting u go.
PS I have a great job now for 18 years though.

The legend is that slips saying your're fired are pink because pink is a calming, soothing, nonaggressive color, meaning they use the color to keep the recipient calm and collected.
