I'm not talking about in school, or what you MIGHT use math for some day. I'm asking what have you actually done when you said to yourself "i'm glad I know math" or "I wish I knew math". When has it been relative to your own life recently?

Again, I'm not asking why math is *important*, I'm asking when you have used it. When have you, personally, actually utilized some math knowledge directly with something you've done.

We use math everyday in real life. Think about this:

WITHOUT MATH, you would not have a computer to play with.

Engineers, technicians, mathematicians, scientists, accountants and actuaries have to use math to complete their jobs. So, they are a group of people that likely use math everyday at their place of work. Math isn't just something used in school to teach "quantitative skills" or something like that. It is an effective tool that has helped bring mankind the technology and knowledge of our universe that we possess today.

As an electrical power engineer, I am quite glad I know math. Just the other day I needed to take a measurement in my university's high voltage lab. I was using a hand-held measuring device rated at a certain maximum voltage and I needed to do a rough math calculation to see if I was within the safe measuring range. It turns out I was going to be very safe, so I took the measurement. And now here I am alive to type the story...

One great glaring answer is when I see the dopey people on DEAL OR NO DEAL being given a huge amount of money and turning it down when the probability of their chance of increasing it is mathematically very small. Or when I don't buy a lottery ticket because I know that the probability of my winning anything is just as good whether or not i buy the ticket. How about the numerous times when I can without much thought give the answer to what I consider a simple math problem asked to me by someone else who seems to struggle with it and i have the answer eithin a few seconds

well i work in metal fabrication, so each day i have to use math to figure out how much material i have used or will use, how heavy some pieces are going to be, various measurements and everything. some of it is done on a calculator of course, but you still need to know how to calculate it first.

Every night while trying to beat my son's high score on Big Brain and Bran age.

other than that... Just for banking and bill paying.

Cooking, everyday use of math especially when doubling or dividing a recipe. Also when cooking "from scratch."
