I have a friend who won't vote his conscience, he votes for who he thinks is going to win, says he doesn't want to waste his vote. I think voting your heart sends a message whether your candidate wins or not. How can I tell my friend he's an idiot without hurting his feelings?
Thanks

Explain that if he doesn't vote his conscience he is keeping us a two party system and things will never change for the better. We have to get a new party in the white house in order to shake things up and let the politicians know that the people are still in charge. Not to mention if you go along with every popular vote then you would have been one of the crowd at Christ's trial that had him crucified. I'm not a Christian but that says a lot about the mob.

Well, let's see. The 2000 vote for President was decided by about 525 votes in my state. So I have to ask myself, "Self? Would I rather see someone in office who thinks partway the way I do, or someone whose views I totally disagree with. My ideal candidate has a snowball's chance in Hell.of winning".

It is called cutting your losses. I have to agree with your friend. I remember 2 or 3 elections where the third candidate cost the 2nd place candidate the election. In 1 case I was happy about it, & the other 2 I wasn't...

Of course, I am assuming you aren't talking about a choice between only 2 candidates. If you are, your friend is whacko because he wasted his vote anyway.

Well he did waste his vote. He has a right as a citizen to vote for who he wants. We all do. We have to believe in our Democracy.

He is basically giving his vote to whomever the majority wants. He's a lamb, doing what he is told. If everyone did that who knows who would be in office, wait, that's why we have who we have, lol.

I would go for his rights as an American. That if he throws it away, he really makes a mockery of our government. Oh and tell him since he doesn't care, I'll tell him who to vote for next time. Or you tell him. Bring home the point that he is just a lamb, if it doesn't matter vote your way!

You don't address. That's the beauty of America. You can vote for who you want and you don't have to explain to anyone else why you voted for someone. If you don't agree with his methods, don't try to change him. Just respect him and realize that at least he IS voting.

Tell him the entire point of voting is to make your opinion matter.

Tell him the definition of voting:

1. a formal expression of opinion or choice, either positive or negative, made by an individual or body of individuals.

Save yourself the aggravation and don't bother. It's his vote to waste.

He's not really voting. He's simply rubber stamping what he THINKS a majority of Americans thinks.

He is wasting his vote, but hey, at least he's voting. And it is, after all, his vote to waste after all.

You probably can't. Maybe approach it by pointing out that he is letting polsters tell him how to vote.

Idiot might be a strong word if you really don't want to hurt his feelings. My philosophy is that you can't convince someone of something they don't want to believe.
