No, it is not true.
When you are casted as an extra, you get paid by the hour for the on-set hours that you work. Each time the movie is played, you do not receive money. Some agencies pay at the end of each of day, some agencies pay after the job is done.
~Some Extra positions are non-speaking positions.
~Some Extra positions are pretend speaking, (lips are moving, no speech )
~Some positions, you actually get to say a line or 2. Pay is slightly higher for this.
~Some times, you get to do easy stunts. Your pay is higher for this.

~My ex husband is in many movies as an extra. He has done all of the above positions. This is a great job! If you are interested
in this types of job, there are many many areas for advancements! Good luck !

Not unless its in your contract (which I would imagine is rare for an extra).

In fact, the cast of Married With Children is pretty bitter about that. They helped make the Fox network, and their show is rerun constantly...but they don't see a dime of that money.

Same thing with the cast of the Blair Witch Project. That movie made millions, and the actors got paid $5000 to do their movie, but the producers own it...so its they who get to collect the TV rights, DVD rights, etc.

No, those rights need to negotiated and put into a contract, and it's rare. Extras are paid a one-time fee. Sometimes extras are only given lunch.

Nope, not as an extra. You may get $100 for 12 hours, but that's it.

No. My ex and his brother were extra's in a movie and they are not still getting paid. . . . .or maybe they are and that is how he afforded that fancy house. BASTARD.
