It depends about the intensity of pain. But if the pain persists despite of taking anti inflammatory drugs and pain releiver better check it with an orthopedic surgeon. You might be having a cervical spondylosis that may require immediate attention. This ailment triggers in any of the situation as mentioned by other folks. Incorrect use of pillows, sit-up, injury etc. It can be traced in an xray with more detailed picture in CT scan and MRIs. It is similar to slip disk. Your doctor may require you to undergo physical theraphy and prescribed some drugs for pain and ain-ti inflammatory drugs.

this is coming from somebody who has dealt with neck pain for years... remove your pillow, and take a towel, roll it up real tight and stick it under your neck (lay on your back of course) and then take another and stick it under the curve of your back. this also relaxes your jaw. not to sound crude but if you are well-endowed (big boobs) make sure your bra fits you right and supports you well, because I've had neck pain from that too lol.

Go to an Upper Cervical Chiropractor. They don't crack bones or anything. I couldn't believe the results I got with just one treatment. I go back about once a year just to make sure I'm still in line. I've also sent others to the lady we have here in town and they are pleased with the results.

use an ice pack for 20 min on and 20 min off. take an anti inflamatory such as ibuprophen and see a chiropractor and get a massage if you don't have an ice pack use a bag of frozen corn or peas.

Tell you husband to leave for a while so you can at least have a little time of relief.
Otherwise see a chiropractor. Until than Naproxon works.
