In an attempt to cut down on disks, I attempted to save computer data on a DVD instead of a CD, but was unable to do so. Did I do something wrong?

Saving data to DVD's works fine, first, do you have a DVD burner? (silly but you would be surprised), next, what program are you using to burn them? Most will detect the presence of a DVD and treat it as such.

Yes, DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disk, Not Video as most people think. The DVD format itself allows for all kinds of uses. You just cant play a DVD data disk on you tv's dvd player.

On a Mac, Toast is a great program. Nero or Easy CD for the PC. When it comes to storing data, think of a blank dvd as exactly like a big CD, treat itthe same.

I assume you have a DVD burner installed in your computer a CD burner won't burn DVD's
If that's the case then there are two main types or formats of DVD they are DVD+R and DVD-R most modern DVD writers support both formats older ones only support one or the other check what yours supports other than that DVD's can be treated just like CD for data you just get more on to them.

Just like you save 'data' to a CD, can save 'data' to a DVD. Use Nero or similar program, so that you can choose which type of DVD you want to create (data, music, video, etc).
