I am sick and tired of answering this question, so time to copy and paste!

Because black history is not covered in the average American history class (besides "blacks were slaves, the end") a week (which later evolved into a month) has been dedicated to black history, for blacks and others to know more about black people, as we are Americans as well.

Until the day black history is integrated into American history, we'll have a black history month. There are other history months as well. As a matter of fact, Women's History Month is next month.

I can see the point of view of African Americans when they say that most US history is White.

But I gotta say that I personally don't think there should be such a month.

The Irish and Chinese have suffered greatly in this country's history yet they aren't asking for anything.

The Japanese were put in camps during WW2, had their rights stripped from them! That was 60 odd years ago!!

Yep, they remind us sometimes, as they should. That prevents us from doing it again.

Blacks were more free than the Japanese then.

You really want a race that deserves some recognition?

Let's look at the Native American.

They were hunted, murdered, re-located, and I do believe, It was this country's first experiments in biological warfare.

They were given blankets infected with smallpox to keep them warm.

Yet I still don't hear about an Native American month.

I'm Canadian. I don't get a month. I don't want one.
My family settled in Assiniboia. And were friends with Native Americans.

We never owned African, Irish, Chinese or any other slaves.

It was long ago. It's time to get over it.

Yet everyday I get to hear African Americans drop the n-bomb on
each other.

You wanna kill the n word? start at home.

Just where is Assiniboia? Look it up. It's time you learn some recent history.

It is based off a black history week which was taught with the start of Aberham Lincon's birthday and then it was changed into black history month.

we are in a white country. why do we have to have a black history month? aint that create more segregations? black people are stupid, they think black history month is great and it can help them to be above and look down at the white but in reality it has gone against them.
