Is it the new generation of kids, mtv, big companies? seriously what happened to good music. And why has this emo trend and south snap music not died already.

I would have to say it's probably a mix of all three you mentioned. It's tough to pin-point one cause, and although money is the center of the whole thing, there are many factors. Firstly, MTV has (unfortunately) been a musical icon for roughly 20 years. However, since they've moved away from music into the realm of crappy reality TV (Road Rules, Real World anyone?), they don't really have the musical credibility they used to have. It's seriously like going to Pizza Hut and ordering a pizza only to have the waiter tell you that they only serve hamburgers. MTV just imports "rising stars" that the big record companies want to sell, and MTV tells the stupid kids that these "musicians" (and I use that term lightly) are cool, and before you know it, the albums are flying off of shelves.

As to what happened to good music...you probably won't hear anything new and good until music is a less expensive business, or the industry undergoes a MASSIVE overhaul. Labels just don't pick up new, different bands since it's such a high risk and when people can get music for free, there's not much promise of a monetary return (which is all the label's really care about anyway).

What I tend to do is find record labels that I like, and keep watching them for new bands. For example, since I love heavy metal, I check out Roadrunner records pretty often and find new bands once in a while that are actually really good.

Don't get too worked up, cause good new music is still out there, it's just a matter of having to search for it.

MTV, without a doubt. All the underground bands that have been around for years are now getting their music videos played on MTV, it's terrible. I guess it's good coverage for the band. The emo trend hasn't died because all the little freshmen in high school think they are cool and walk wearing all black and acting all depressed. Honestly its just a cry out for help or they need a good swift kick in the a**

You're dating yourself by asking such a question. You sound like those people who used to think Rock and Roll was the Devil's music! There's always good music out there, you just have to find it. BTW: What's South Snap?

I am not sure about rock because that's not the genre I listen to but I definately agree re: rap...I think that alot of factors contribute to the fact that the music has changed in such a drastic degree. I think that money basically has everything to do with it. Rap used to actually be considered a political statement but now, I am not sure that I would call it that anymore. It's kind of sad really.

Yes... 99% of it is just cookie cutter crap. I stopped listening to American Multimedia LONG LONG ago... You can only find true creativity away from the MPAA and their "Just Clone Um' and the public will spend spend spend" mentality. I can't watch a majority of American TV and Movies any more either... It is all just so 'by the books' with the boy always getting the girl and the money in the last 5 min's of the movie so they can live happily ever after... Stupid crap like that makes me feel as if my brain cells are commiting suicide... Search abroad for realistic and creative media...

For one, Rap isn't music it's poetry set to a synth beat ripped from sampled software. As for Rock, I think Country is closer to the original than anything being played on the box today. If you got rid of the steel guitars, a lot of it WOULD be rock. That's why more Country tunes are showing up on the pop charts as "crossovers".

Nobody did. People's taste change. That's all. As you get older you appreciate the music you listened to as a teenager and young adult more and compare it to what's hot now resulting in a dissappreciation of today's styles.

Well, I can see how you think it's dead. It's a matter of opinion. There just might not be any songs out at this point that strike your interest. There is no such thing as "good music". It's all opinions.

Everything's going through evolution, and music trends are evolving, just like everything else.

Depends on what you like. It's not right to judge music just by your taste.
