humour is so subjective, just as everything is, i suppose. my favourite funny movie of all time is a film from 1976, the year i was born, called Murder By Death. it's a brilliant ensemble comedy with a lot of great actors in it, including Peter Sellers, David Niven & Peter Falk, just to name a few. but i know a lot the current movie-going public more than likely wouldn't like this film. they'd probably find it to be boring and stupid, which is just how i would describe about 90% of the comedy's that have come out in the last 10-ish years. i haven't seen a good comedy, a legitimately laugh out loud comedy in a loooong time... and i find a lot of things funny and laugh all the time, so you just never can tell! : )

Good Luck with your research! and rent Murder By Death... it's GREAT! : )

cheers,
Shauna!

for me what makes a movie funny is wit, snappy attitudes and characters that have issues. I don't usually find physical pain funny, i like smart funny and unpredictable, not cliche. What i think is that people who find themselves laughing at people getting hurt (ie smacked in the balls, slapped, ect.) do not understand the other humor in the movie like verbal comedy- i hate saying this but when i am in a theater and some character gets racked- and the crowd laughs uncontroably, i feel like i am in a crowd of 1st graders and idiots.
Exaggerating common "people flaws" can produce a lot of humor as well randomness and exploiting and exagerating stereotypes (as bad as that may sound). Sometimes humor can come as simple as a odd face expression or movement (a lot of the time these movements are repeted through-out the movie).
i hope this helps?

those movies are seen Parodies. enormously plenty something Mel Brooks has finished. you will discover it in alot of comedies, some greater desirable than others. the two the Wayne's Worlds, the Shrek videos use alot of parody, returned mel brooks videos (blazing saddles, robin hood men in tights, spaceballs), Dewey Cox, Tropic Thunder. any action picture that takes a theory, scene, or recognizable action picture of any kind and "pokes" exciting on the characters.

I think humor is found when a filmmaker pokes fun of common quirks and misbehaviors that we have and do. Also, the over exaggeration of body language and extorting uncomfortable moments. Facial expressions are great as well.

the movie becomes only funny if and only if the actors/actress are good in tickling the audiences laugh spot either through their funny face, actions or the way they speak...

All humor is surprise and upset expectations. Without this basic element, no humor is possible.
