everytime i start the car, there is this loud high pitched squeaky sound from my car. around the engine area. I think it's from the conveyor belt since its continuous, doesn't change in volume and sounds like it's spinning. Maybe there is some friction with the belt? During the night, however, it stops. It's really annoying and attracts many people's attention. (attention i don't want) What can I do?

First check the belt tension, does it due it when the a/c is on/off or both. Also it could be the idler pully. The bearings go out in the pully but you cant just replace the bearings you have to buy yht pully assembly itself. These are around twenty bucks depending on vehicle make, and easy to install. If the belt has more than a 1/4 inch of play in it tighten it by adjusting the brackets on the alternator, or other adjustable areas depending on make. To check the play of the belt simply take your index finger and push on the belt it should not move far, it should have plenty of tension on it like a guitar string. Hope this helps, try belt dressing also. But check the other things also.

Ok, there is no conveyor belt in your car unless there is a tiny little retail shop in there under the hood! Conveyor belts move products to the cashier. What you are hearing may be the drive belt, or power steering belt. Take your car in for a check-up.

haha.. sorry i had to answer this one just because you called it a conveyor belt. what is your car making that sends things out on a conveyor belt... but for real, i sounds like you are right. most likely a worn belt. most of the time its the fan belt, and you want to change it because as soon as your fan goes, then you overheat and then more expensive problems

Could be your serpentine belt. They wear out after awhile and slip on the pulley's. They don't cost that much to change and then you can eliminate that if you still have the noise

if it is an older vehicle it is called a v belt and should be tightened if it is a newer car it is called a serpintine belt and should be replaced. it could also be a pully bearing.

either a loose drive belt,,or tensioning pulley wheel on the way out.
From your description,,goes quiet at night time (time when lights are on and alternator creates resistance) could be your alternator drive belt.
Have you belts checked for correct tension and check for wear.

I suspect it's your alternator belt (it probably transfers power to/from several other items as well). Time to get it replaced; better to do that than to have it break in the middle of nowhere.

If you haven't replaced your fan belts, time to do it.
