I need an idea for a report. The report is suppose to be a misconception that young children have about physics. (gravity, inertia, forces of motion...) any thoughts??

How's this for a misconception - one I had as a kid:

If you devote your life to physics and study hard you can grow up to be fulfilled, make a great contribution to humanity, and maybe be famous.

The reality is you get stuck in a worthless dead end production job with coworkers you can't stand to look at, and no prospects for changing careers, because everyone else thinks you are a nerd.

I think one misconception young children have is that they believe objects are pushed through the air consistently rather than by a single force. For example, You throw a ball in the air, I think kids believe the air keeps pushing the ball along until it hits the ground, but in reality, the ball only needs one force to get the ball moving and then the air opposes the balls motion through friction. Kids don't understand that.

if you need ideas about misconceptions you have to identify them first. start asking young children questions, it wont be long before you have a lot of ideas.

one possible question: when we drop a feather, why does it fall more slowly than an orange?

Heavy things fall faster than lighter things, always a classic.
