A thing call heat soak. The starter heats up from driving it around and looses its electrical efficiency. You'll need to replace the starter. Good luck.

Besides the starter, there are also other components in the path.
Many vehicles also have a starter relay that could fail when hot,
usually it's located in the engine compartment.
Also, if you have an automatic transmission there is a neutral
safety switch which will only allow the engine to start when in
Park or Neutral (you might want to try starting it in Neutral).
One other possibility is the ignition switch itself (I just replaced
one today that would fail after warming up).

Try shifting to Neutral (with foot on brake, of course) and try
to start this way first.

Good luck!

Sounds like a caravan I once knew. If you turn the key to start and it just clicks, or moans. it's probably the starter or the connections at the solenoid. Check the ground cable at the engine as well. I have seen starters become non functioning when hot, but let them cool down and they work like new. Only remedy for this one , if all the connections are clean and tight, is to replace the starter.

It sounds like heat soak to the starter, your starter is probably real close to your exhaust pipe and the heat from the pipe heats the starter up and makes it sluggish, the only thing you can do is run a larger positive cable to the starter and they make a remote soleonoid kit that you can put on your car where it mounts away from the heat of the exhaust and mount it on your inner fender well and this will cure the problem.

starter is getting hot metal expands and drag is a side affect of expant parts in the starter i would have your mechanic look into this also check your oil if the engine is overheating because of lack of lubrication could cause this but i believe the starter is at fault
