Mace is actually a brand-name of pepper spray, so it's just a difference on what type brand you use.
And all pepper spray is Capsaicin ( the oil extracted from the placenta tissue just below the stem of the hot pepper). Capsaicin determines the pungency of the red peppers. The pungency of these peppers is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHUs) and is not to be confused with OC percentages. OC percentages only measure the amount of pepper.
Scoville Heat Units is also known as the dry weight of Capsaicin in the spray. 2 million SHUs is the maximum amount of pungency contained in any defense spray.
This can cause temporary blindness, or ,if left in the eyes long enough, even permenant blindness.
It also causes temporary confusion and shortness of breath.

Pepper spray is made from different kinds of pepper and mase isn't.

Pepper spray has hot cayenne peppers and mase has other chemicals.

ha ha ha canada law is so freaking stupid. You buy some bear spray because you can't have a gun in the woods. You are walking home with the bearspray when some thugs with bats and golfclubs jump out and start beating you. You have to let them beat you to death rather than attempt to use the bearspray on them, because that would be wrong. Look, i agree that you can't go around blasting people wiht bearspray, but that counts with mace and anythign else too, just because they torque you off. But if a reasonable person would feel threatened, blast away with anything you got.

I believe it's the content. Pepper spray is like pepper while mace is a dry powder corrosive chemical activated by moisture. I may be wrong.

One doesn't sound as dangerous I mean pepper spray doesn't sound deathly but mase! O gosh run for cover. lol.
