After opening Task Master to check CPU usage I noticed System Idle Process was using between 90 and 99 cpu. Is this normal?

Yes, because the system idle process is the amount of CPU that is idle, meaning it is the amount of CPU that is currently untapped or unused by your computer.

When playing video games, watching a movie, or installing a program it may drop to 50, meaning that 50% of your CPU is being used and 50% is untapped!

this is quite normal, the 99% means that it is using 99% of the amount of power used at that time
