try holding the center and menu button at the same time until you hear the "click sound" then if it goes off, try again.

I used to have a problem like that, I would not be able to shut off my iPod. For future recommendations I would say dont get an iPod. For now (i think) that you have a few options. WAIT. Sometimes if you wait for some reason it will work the next day maybe next week. You should also check the online site for troubleshoots, (apple.com) and if that doesnt work take it to the store. As a VERY LAST resort you could try to reset your iPod. I dont remember how to do it exactly, I would say it was something like toggle the hold switch, and hold the center button for a certain amount of time, but I know that they tell you on the website. That should do it.

I know you said it is charged, but it usually clicks and does what you are describing when it is dead so plug it into iTunes and try again. Also - if this doesn't work, try resetting it by holding down "Menu" and the middle button for 5 seconds. This will not erase or harm anything!
