Yes, stupid things happen to me all the time. Today, for instance, my garage door opener wouldn't work. I checked the fuse box and sure enough, it was tripped. I unplugged everything (except the garage door opener, of course!) and the switch still remains tripped. If I try to switch it, it trips immidiately.

To make things worse, the chord that I pull to unhook the garage from the opener (so I can open it manually) is gone! So, is my car locked in my garage forever? What should I do?

You may want to check the springs on your garage door to see if one is broken. Tortion springs will eventually break and you have to look at them pretty close to see the break.

If a spring is broken the garage door will not open with the opener. It is possible that when the garage door attempts to open that it draws too many amps and trips.

I will have to say that usually the breaker would not retrip should this occur, but there are many garage door openers so they may behave in different manners.

If it is the tortion spring you will find that the door is extremely hard to lift once you do spring the release. Also, once you get the release to work you can try to reset your breaker and try the opener with no load on it.

Good Luck.

There is an electrical short somewhere because of the way the breaker trips. Your actual door opener is probably ok. If possible , undo the wires going to the door opener and try to find the short or Plan B call the garage door people and have them check it out.

i visit merely say this: The mere undeniable fact which you're asking makes it sparkling which you're no longer optimistic whilst it is composed of electrics. for this reason on my own i could say get an electrician formerly we even flow into answering the question. Secondly, going to reformatory may be somewhat harsh yet under no circumstances impossible considering you should comprehend that there are policies for a reason. in case you are attempting this your self, and somebody dies, then that's manslaughter any way you look at it. Even a qualified electrician could desire to be charged with that little bombshell. finally, i'm able to unquestionably assure you that working an extension or wiring into your modern kitchen socket is a reliable NO for motives reported in different posts. The policies replaced various years in the past now and while you could completely re-twine your kitchen or bathing room your self that's prohibited so you might regulate the capability directly to it without it being totally checked by using an electrician first. It does want a separate shopper unit under pressure on your considerable relatives unit and it does want armoured cable BURIED under the floor no longer merely under your flags. It additionally desires a undeniable black and yellow tape that sits above the armoured cable to warn anybody contained sooner or later that there is a cable there in the event that they arrive to a decision to dig up the backyard.

Everyone else has the basics covered so I won't elaborate on that.

I will offer up that my friend from work had this type of failure, and it turned out one of the door return springs had snapped and launched itself through the backwall and into the wire (in the wall) that powered the opener!

This is a real long shot (no pun intended), but you might want to take a quick peek at the wall opposite your door and check for damage. Again, I really doubt this, breakage yes, but also hitting the wire? But it could happen.

number 1, replace the pull cord with a new one, 2 switch trip off then switch on feeling for positive action, 3 test for supply to switch (pull cord), if none after checking then replace the trip switch. 4 to get car out whilst this is going on, try operating the door manually as there shoud be manual winding on electric door.

Firstly unplug the opener to see if the MCB still trips out. If it does then it's the circuit, not the opener.

If it's the circuit and you can run an extension from another to open the door then do that to at least get the car out.

At least then you know which part of the system the fault lies with.

well you for sure have a problem.the breaker is tripped because of an overload, and if the motor in the opener is burned out, which is very possible, then that would explain why when you try to reset it it still stays tripped.it is designed to keep it from shorting and starting a fire.stop trying to reset it and call an electrician.as far as the door, get a chair and reattach any type of cord you have and use it as always

You can pull the release without the cord. Sounds like the drive motor in the opener is gone. Time to go to the hardware store for a new one.:-(
