When you join a Lodge, you should be shown the Charter and given a copy of the by-laws and constitution of the Order. At least that is how it is in American Co-Masonry.

If your Lodge does not hold Charter or the Charter you were shown is somehow bogus, then you were lied to. Submit your resignation to that Lodge (and keep a copy of it.)

When you apply to a Just, Perfect, and Regular Lodge, you will be asked about other Masonic affiliations. Be upfront with them. But also show them your letter of resignation from the other organization.

Act with good Masonic principles and I am sure you will not be blamed. Remember not to spend a lot of time blaming the supposedly clandestine Lodge. Work on your own Ashlar.

On the Level,
A Master Mason

If you are a member of a clandestine Lodge, you will want to demit from it before petitioning a regular Lodge. The reason is that the 3rd degree in a regular Lodge includes oaths related to clandestine Masonry. The other Mason won't know (and may not care), but you probably don't want to swear a false oath on the matter. But make sure that your Lodge is actually clandestine. Some bodies were once clandestine and have since been accepted (A.F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, Shrine, Prince Hall, for example), some are only clandestine in specific states (Scottish Rite Symbolic Lodge, for example), and some are completely clandestine (Rite of Memphis-Mizraim, Grand Orient of France, Co-Masonry, for example). Hope this helps -

The word clandestine can not be used when referring to masons. Look up the word.

Being a Mason is all about being honest trustworthy and charitable.

No problem. Just drop off your black helicopter keys and decoder ring at the door on your way out.
