I am from the U.S. but I'm just curious to know if it is actually the people here that most people dislike or our government. I'm sure you can find good and bad people wherever you go.....thanks for the poll!

I can't speak for anyone else but I have no problem with American people. There is however a widely held dislike and deep mistrust of the current American government. Soon to change I hope and not a moment too soon.

I think that most people have a deep distrust of America, mainly due to the decisions made by President Bush and the government. However I think also that people dislike the American people for voting the idiot into office twice! It has a lot to do with ego and attitude. But that may be due to media representation such as films from Hollywood etc. People also think of Americans as very nationalist, and racist I have to admit - obviously that's not all of them. But most people probably don't know any Americans personally, I have a two very good American friends that have helped change my views of them quite a bit. I think Americans probably have a habit of making a bad impression on people when they travel around - but as it's quite expensive to travel to Europe etc most of the Americans that come here will be of a certain type - which may be a reason for the stereotypes associated with people from the US.

Every country has it's good and bad points, the reason the US has such a bad reputation is due to the exposure it has through media and the attitudes/politics expressed by a small number of people to the whole world.

As someone who has had the wonderful opportunity to travel to about 10 European countries (some for as long as five months straight), I can honestly say that Europeans like Americans who are polite and interested in the countries they are visiting. They do not like arrogant Americans who believe that the rest of the world is just there to serve them or who act disappointed when they find Europe to be different than America (or people like this from any country for that matter - I have met some arrogant Brits and Germans when in Europe).

They don't categorically dislike our government either. What they mostly dislike is our military and foreign policies that seem to run roughshod over the Europeans. I dislike our foreign and military policies too. We seem hellbent on making everyone cow-tow to our wishes instead of creating processes that lead to shared decisions and goals.

I would say the Government, which is also made up of americans, sorry. But really, like people, you do get good and bad Governments wherever you go. The type of person who wants to Govern in the first place is suspect if you ask me.

Most people I know (in the UK) strongly dislike the US government. Since the US is a democracy, it seems only reasonable to dislike the Americans who voted for the current US government, and (for me, anyway) those who, through not voting, allowed the current US government to win the last election.

I don't trust your present government but then I don't trust ours.
I do think that some of the views on Yahoo Q&A are a bit biased from the Americans and I think that is because most have never been outside of the USA.I know they will say they have every thing they need in their own country so they don't need to travel outside.
But they will still only see what is in their own newspapers and on their TV.

I have no problem with Americans, however if an American comes on and insults us, especially about WW2 I will have a go back. People in the uk are very into American bashing , my opinion is it is safer to let rip at Americans than say what they really think in politically correct little Britain. We have a lot in common with Americans politicians who will sacrifce us all on the alter of their ambition.

There is at the moment a discussion in germany on how much apart we are.
Difficult question. When I watch the "Jerry Springer Show", "Date my mom" or "Next", you can get the impression the u.s. americans trade their brains for plastic surgery silicone.

BUT ... I think you cannot judge a 270 MIO ppl to this crab or?

And ... making war . The germans are totaly fed up with making war as an instrument of politics. We lost lost lost..... lost

Your government is representing the willpower of all ppl of your country / ~nation. Elections are coming soon.

As a german I can tell you : We hate making war, We hate the meaning the expression of nation : I am so glad I am european now.

Your President is using all of this, war, nation bla bla. We can not accept this.
