The other "five civilized tribes" Creek, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole had their own "Trail of Tears" to the Indian Territory (Now Oklahoma) at about the same time as the Cherokees (1836 -1839). This was one of those dark episodes in American which occasionally happens. To many Americans, removing these Indians to the Indian territory seemed like the right thing to do at the time, much like the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, but in hindsight, it turned out to be a mistake.

The policy actually had it's roots in British history. It was the historical policy of the British to remove and relocate people who were considered troublesome. They did it with the Irish in the 1730's (sending many to Nefoundland) and again in the 1840's (sending many to Quebec and the northeastern United States. They even did it with a lot of lower-class English in the slums of East London, forcibly removing them and shipping them off to the Australia prison colony in the 1840's and '50's.

Yes that particular forced relocation was mainly Cherokee. 4,000 Native Americans died on " the trail where we cried" also known as the trail of tears.
