who decides what is attractive?? I love curly, nappy hair. My hair is curly and has never see a 'straight' day in a long while. I can tell you there is nothing more repulsive than when my hair is straight. I don't even feel like myself. And the white men, as well as the black love it as is. You are a victim of the white aesthetic - just like all the black women you mention. It's OK to be like that, but please don't make complete generalizations!

I'm black and get relaxers in my hair and that doesn't mean I look down on people with natural hair. Nappy isn't just used for black people I've seen people of all races with nappy unkept hair. Just because I straighten my hair doesn't mean I'm trying to have hair like white people I have nice thick long hair, I have no desire to look like anyone but myself. Also all black people don't have curly hair if the go natural, when I don't get relaxers my hair isn't curly I have waves, I do my hair by the way I feel not based on other peoples race!

when my hair is in good condition, its beautiful. however when its full of split ends i hate it.
personally i dont relax my hair, and i only wore extensions while i was trying to nutrure my hair (it became very week after poor management and pregnancy). And I wouldnt be caught dead in a weave unless it was maybe an afro weave!! Moreover my husband loves my nappy state and detests straightened hair and weaves.
and i am not mixed or anything. My hair in its good state is soft and manageable. I love afro hair. There are some beautiful styles that can be done with it. I especially like it when the front is cornrowed and the back is left to fro out, that style is awesome and sensual.
Its sad that some black women dont see their hair in the same way.
Oshishana, if you are even partially black i gotta add that it is very regrettable that you think that anyone who says they like afro hair must be being dishonest. Just because you have completely bought into the european standard of beauty doesnt mean we all have. Please believe that, if nothing else. Peace sis.

Yes, I find natural nappy hair to be absolutely beautiful. Natural black hair is the best textured hair in the world and the most exoctic because only black people have it where as most other races hair straight or curly hair. I have a few reasons why white people's hair is not all its cracked up to be:
1. The texture of black hair when its well moistured and taken care of feels like cotton when its wet and soil when its dry and thats a good thing.
2. Can be styled in nicer styles and more can be done with it then a white woman's hair that doesn't hold styles well at all and gets frizzy with split ends easily.
3. Because white people secrete oil out of their scalps and coats every hair and is why they are born with straight hair in the first place, makes their hair very oily and smelly. This is why white women must wash their hair 2-4 times a week or else their hair will really stink and be dirty. This is why white people don't have as much dandiff or dry scalp as black people because of this oil secretion
4. Because their hair gets so oily and smelly quicker, they are more likely to have a bad hair dair because they didn't get a chance to wash their hair.
5. They are 90 times more likely to get lice or other parasites in their hair while blacks hair stay free of it even when in close contact. This is because the oilyness in white people's hair attracts these types of bugs more easily.

My hair is "nappy" and I get compliments all the time. If the hair is well groomed and styled then it's not nappy, Black people have tightly curled hair. The majority of people in this country have straight hair, they look down on the people that don't and convince them that their hair, features etc.. are ugly. I find myself the most attractive when my hair is in it's natural state (I sometimes press it) because it's the hair that I was born with. No one should be told that the features that God gave them should be manipulated and deemed as unattractive.

I actually think it's kind of cute. Maybe that's just me and the fact that my hair responds horribly to chemicals plus I'm lazy as all get out so I'm usually unwilling to do anything but make sure it's still on my head and in some state resembling healthy. But yeah, with the right style I think natural black hair is really rather pretty.

As you can see by the answers, nappy hair isn't seen as beautiful. Know why? Because of the media's obvious standard of white beauty. Once we can get Jessica Alba to wear an afro, that's when nappy hair will be seen as more widely appealing. Lol.
Brittney's already got girls wanting to shave their heads bald!
It's amazing how the media influences otherwise rational people.

The reason is b/c most black women dont want to or dont know how to take care of their natural hair....
The reason for that is b/c in order to wear your hair natural you really have to experiment A LOT...not many salons and products are made for our hair....THIS IS WHY BLACK WOMEN RELAX THIER HAIR.
In the end, many ppl go around thinking there is somethng wrong with our natural hair, only b/c black women themsleves dont know what to do with their natural hair..BTW a black women who wears their natural hair and knows how to take care of it would telling you that it's much less hassle than having a relaxer..and I'm one of them...
Most black women who say they relax their hair b/c it's easier to deal with, really just dont know what the heck to do with their natural hair...I was like this too back in HS..until I wised up and stopped being lazy and found out what works for my natural hair...it took about three yrs of trial and error (I could have easily gave up and went to a salon to put a relaxer in, like most women) but I now know what works for my hair and I would NEVER relax again,..I love my easy to take care of, beautiful, nappy hair...
For those of you who are ready to see ur real selves, and tired of making white/asian men rich when u use their relaxers, then check out this website:
