Every woman's body reacts differently to Depo; so there's no universal "right" or "wrong" - birth control is all about what works best for YOU and YOUR BODY.
Some things you might want to consider: A big plus is that it lasts for approx 3 months, so you don't have to worry about it (ie, you can't "mess it up"). Though those 3 months could be a big drawback if you experience really crummy side-effects. There's no way to suck it back out of your system, nor any medication that will counter its effects. Depending on what type of oral contraceptive you've been taking, the side effects may be pretty similar. Some women lose their periods on depo; others have continuous spotting the whole time; yet others are somewhere in between. A problem is that the long term use of depo provera is associated with a decrease in bone density - short term shouldn't be a major problem though. Studies show a rebound with discontinuation.
I suppose that's a long-winded way of saying: you won't know until you try. You might also want to look into other forms of contraception like the patch (but not if you're a cigarette smoker!!) or the nuva ring or an IUD. Best of luck to you in finding what works best for you.

I was on the shot for about 4 yrs and I liked it way better then the pill. it has the same warning side effects. the pill made me gain alot of weight where the shot kept me at the same weight and I had my period every month only it was fewer days and lighter. everybody is different you could always try it out and afterr the 3 months if you don't like it go back to the pill.

I personally would not recommend it just from my personal experience with it. I bleed for 3 months straight and there was nothing the doctors could do about it I became extremely anemic and was placed on iron supplements. I would recommend that you stay on the pill if it is working for you the great thing about the pill is if you start to experience negative side effects you can just stop taking it unlike the shot which has to run its course.

I loved being on the shot. I didn't have any periods. I would spot right before it was time for the next injection. The only reason I got off of it was that it caused me to gain 10 pounds in 1 year.

you should not be having sex. and the pill is bad. my sister in law had a stroke. be smart. be celibate. you have a very short time to be young and a very long time to be old..... be selective and be smart....... I don't recomment any birth control. other than condom or the old pull out. but I don't recomment having sex outside of marriage either used to..... grew up in sixties... ruined my life.... be smart. save yourself.
