I am interviewing someone with ADD and I was wondering what types of questions I can ask without offending them? Thanks.

I guess that all depends on the nature of the interview, don't you. If it is for a job, then you are limited to specifics of the job and some basics regarding behavioral patterns.

Are you able to concentrate on the job at hand for an extended period of time? Can you complete a task in the time allotted?

(Personally I have me doubts as to the validity of the aforementioned "disorder" and I am adamantly against drugging bright kids into dullards, that being said there are some poorly raised people with really bad attention spans and very little conscience out there. Good luck determining which one you will be interviewing!)

Ok so it isn't for a job but to find out more about why they act the way they do. Find out if the person's parents are both around, was there a stay at home parent, what activities did the parents do with the kid, how much tv, what amount of supervision, were parents accesible at home, how much open affection was available, was the kid read to regularly, did he have to fight siblings for attention from parents ...things like that are useful in getting to the root of why a kid behaves the way he/she does.

It depends on how severe their ADD is....questions such as do you enjoy reading and about how much time do you read daily....how do you spend a typcial day?...some occupations are suited to those with ADD and some are not...so do you enjoy your work? How do you spend your leisure time? What activities do you look forward to? My ADD son can spend hours on a computer playing games because the computer gives him that instatnt feedback he craves....Ask how they manage their ADD and if you ask in a genuine, accepting and empathic way without judgment you should get honest answers.

Most people with ADD live normal lives. It's not as though they come to work with a third foot growing out of their head.

I would suggest you keep the questions work/professional based or you are asking for a law suit.

You also need to realize that many people with ADD control it with vigorous exercise and/or medication. It does not render one unable to function.

ADD is Attention Defecit Disorder. It hard for them to focus for more then 5 sec. or so. Ask Quick questions that relate to the job they are applying for depending if you feel they could work at this position with this disorder.

Good luck! See if you can get any answers at all. Why? You already knowwhy, their attention span is to short. That's why. Good enough, yes?
