We want to know where they go, what they do, who there with, what they eat, there political views, why do we idolize something that we helped pay for?

Because the government knows the average american is incredibly simple-minded, so the media blinds us with celebrity fodder so that we don't pay as much attention to the fact that our president is a moron and there are soldiers dying while we are worrying about where Anna Nicole's body is being buried or if Britney's hair will ever grow back.
I caught on to this while I was watching CNN. Condaleza Rice was holding a conference with somebody, that I don't know who, because I was paying attention to the scroll on the bottom about Brit's rehab stint

because they are rich and famous!
and we may also idolize them...we may want to follow in their footsteps of success! and also...we may like the work they do e.g. movies
songs
dramas!
its just a part of our everyday lives!
