"Little Miss Sunshine" --

the grandfather is a crack addict and he is teaching his grand-daughter a routine for a beauty pagent.. the grand-daugher's mom's brother is gay and tries to commit suicide, fails and then lives with the family. the little girl's brother has taken a vow of silence, hates his parents, and wants to join the air force. the father is an inspirational speaker trying to publish a book, but it gets shot down and the family is worried about finances.. this movie is a comedic drama, but the family in it is completely dysfunctional so you should check it out.

I don't know if your topic would let you use this movie because both of the children in the movie are boys, but I think if you take a look at the movie "The Squid and the Whale" you would be able to write a really interesting paper. Its a very thought provoking movie. Take a look at the link below.

"Once Were Warriors" --plus it's like the greatest movie ever. "Imaginary Crimes" would work well.
