I'd like to know if everybody else feels like I did when I taught in Dickinson Texas. The kids weren't all bad, but the ones that were made things miserable for everyone. The administrators did nothing to help with discipline. I got tired of kids cussing at me and I was afraid of what they might do next. Please give an approximate location where you teach and a concise description of what it is like.

The worst is a daily thing where I teach. Kids bully teachers/staff, throw things (furniture, scissors, pencils), break equipment, steal, lie, hurt each other emotionally and physically, swear, litter, run away ... on and on. They are nice kids mostly, but some are just beyond anything Id have imagined a child could be like. THEN, meet the parents!!!! We have the police turn up quite regularly (& this is a primary school!) I love working with them but it is really hard and sometimes not rewarding at all. I teach in rural Australia with a mix of Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal students. Racism is not one of our biggest problems, so that's good :)

I made the mistake of going to work in a dysfunctional school in a dysfunctional system. Some of the students were great, as good as any that I have ever had in any school. The problem was 4 principals in two years. With the two worst we got conflicting messages . Discipline was something we heard about in meetings and sending kids to the office was a bit of a joke. It was a small community in the Northeast.

My worst that I had to put up with was when i had a student that had ADD/Learning problem and I told the parents to do a Behavior Chart @ home and that would have one @ school. The child behavior was great for about two week & then she was right back to her stages of behavior- Because the Mother decide that she didn't need any more, that really make my work harder, because she reseved the steps backward by five steps and to start all over again. The mother didn't seem to what to understand that her child had a Learning problem/behavior. Anyway at the end I told that she need to take her duaghter to a place that would help her understand more about her problems. If you would see her now she in the loop of her daughter problem now and now wish for me to help her daughter. We teacher put up with alot, but this is the career we decide to take.... I have no regrets in my choice of career.

NYC Public School- I had 16 year old ex-con who would constantly taught and tease and threaten violence. We got rid of him after continued documentation and a physical fight.
