Since I had to reload Windows XP, there is no icon for the volume control on the computer; (lower right corner, where the clock is--is this called the taskbar?) ; this makes it hard to hear. There is a volume control on YouTube, etc., but these are not too effective. I went someplace within the bowels of the program, having heard that there was a checkmark or program you ran to make the speaker appear; I went to this area, followed directions, and still the icon is not visible. Any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

Open your control panel and choose Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices and then choose Sounds and Audio Devices (if you're in classic view, just choose the Sounds and Audio Devices icon)

When the window pops up, make sure you're on the volume tab and make sure that Place volume icon in taskbar is checked.

To make it appear in the bottom right corner go to Control panel, then Sounds and Audio devices and check the box which says "Place volume icon in the taskbar" in the volume tab. Make sure you click OK not cancel or the red X in the top corner, otherwise your changes will not be saved.

I had the same problem while installing wxp in a Compaq, I fix it by downloading the sound drivers from the Compaq website, you can try going to your computer manufacture and check if there are patchs or sound drivers you need to download for your model.

The volume control is in programs, accessories, and entertainment. If you dont see it there, then you havent installed the sound driver.

you need to reload the sound drivers for your sound card, with your pc you should have got a disc called drivers and utilities, you need to install the drivers off this disc and your sound should be ok, if you dont have the disc go to the manufacturers website and get them from there they will be under the download and support section. i hope this helps
