our next door neighbour has just had his door put through by someone carrying a machette. we are having a debate as to what you would you do in this situation. Granny thinks phone 999 (obv) but would you hit them with something, pretend to be asleep, spray a can of de-odourant in their face, scream etc....

I would reach under my bed and grab my AK-47. I would then order them to leave my home of face the consequences. If you don't have or don't wish to use a weapon, it's best to do as they say. Unless they attack you. Then it's worth putting up a fight.

If someone broke into my house do you have a phone in the house and in your bedroom, if you here someone don't go and look ring 999 right away and don't delay, even though you are in the bedroom don't leave because then you are putting your own life at risk, after ring the police wait for them to arrive then leave your room safely, never never take risk if want to know more visit your local police station for advice.

Buy a dog to warn you, criminals usually skip past the house going for an easier target. You could also buy a gun and keep it loaded by the bed. A machette versus a gun. You win.

I would attempt to ring the police. I get so angry just thinking about it, and I would sneak around the house, then screaming at the top of my voice attack! Attack being the best form of defence? I have a brass headed walking stick, and I KNOW where to use it, Machete or not - his eyes would cross and he would be sucking hospital food through a straw for quite some time!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!

My mother always used to say pretend to be asleep but I don't think I could do that. I think I'd make a bit of noise to see if the burglar got scared and went off then send my husband to investigate plus the dogs!

Lets face it,if someone broke into my house carrying a machette his intent either is to rob or murder, my opinion he would do both.
So yea I would tackle him no sweat it is either him or me what have I got to loose, it is called survival mind you I would have rung police or got someone else in the house to do it whilst I see to the Cretan.

Given the opportunity, kick the crap out of them, tie them up, then call the police! A friend once woke up to a knife at her throat. All she could do was scream bloody murder. Thank goodness that freaked the guy out and he took off.

It happened to me a few years ago.
I came in late one night; everyone else was in bed; walked into the kitchen to find a guy rummaging in the cupboards.
Roared at the top of my voice, and started hitting him over the head with my teeny evening bag!!
He ran! I don't know who got the biggest fright...me or him

Apart from wetting the bed in sheer fright, I really dont know what I would do!

Probably wake my hubby and get him to go sort it out while i protected our 4 year old.

1) Turn off all the lights (you know the layout of your house far better than they do and they will trip over things

2) Try to sneak out of the house to get help

3) (If 2 Fails) Hit them very very hard with something very very hard
