I am coming up from Springfield, IL area, so would like to stay near Midway airport, or somewhere else on this side of downtown, but would consider any decent area. Hoping to be close enough to a station where I could walk, if I want to. Looking for room for 4 around $100/night, or as reasonable as possible for a weekend.

There are tons of chain motels south of Midway, all in the price range you mention. Most are technically in the suburb of Bedford Park, just west of Cicero Avenue. Most have shuttles to the 'L' station at Midway. If yours doesn't, figure a 15 minute-walk or a 5-minute bus ride.

While others are trashing the area around Midway, there's really nothing wrong with it. It's not terribly exciting, but it's reasonably safe and would offer convenient access to the 'L'. It's not especially convenient from I-55, though--a fairly long drive down Cicero Avenue. You might find it more convenient to look near the Metra stations further out. There's a Super 8 in Mokena (just east of Joliet), for instance, that is within walking distance of the Hickory Creek Metra station, and Tinley Park (I-80 and Harlem Avenue) offers several hotels that are a quick drive from the 80th Avenue park-and-ride. Metra offers hourly service most of the day to the south and southwest suburbs.

I regularly stay at the Hampton Inn Midway. It is located between 65th & 67th and Cicero; the airport is also on Cicero. I believe the Hampton has transport to and from Midway. Verify this online or ask if you decide to make reservations.

The hotel is less than 10 minutes away (on wheels) from the airport (except possibly at rush hour or other times of heavy traffic). There are other hotels in the same hotel complex, although I don't know the names of those. You can walk to the airport, although I don't wholeheartedly recommend it. Traffic around the airport is fairly dense, except for certain hours when it thins out significantly (which is then perfect for walking).

The person who said the L is approximately a 15 minute walk from the hotel is accurate.

Hampton provides breakfast for no cost. It is not a hot meal (although the coffee is hot), but is more of a Continental breakfast. Even so, I enjoy it. If you plan to eat, try to make it to the lobby early for the best selections.

The L is actually 'at the airport'. someone at the hotel should be able to direct you, although it is easy enough to find. Just return to the airport, and ask almost anyone for directions. Your best option would be to use the hotel transport, if the timing fits your schedule.

Enjoy your trip.

Hope this helps!

Oh geeze...don't spend that much! When are you going..weekend or weekday? You'll find much better deals during the week. Go to Priceline and start from there - select a 3 star and start the bidding at $100...you'll more than likely get something. I've entered a 4* before and got the Millenium Knickerbocker on the corner of Michigan and...??? something or another and it was only $99 per night. I also usually get the Hyatt for $140 range..but expect to pay more for weekends. Or..try Hotwire...that will tell you a price, location and a star level but not the name of the hotel. It's another good site!

there are a few hotels on Cicero by the airport, but why would you want to stay in that area of the city? if you want to stay within walking distance of the "el" or any metra station you can stay anywhere you want in the city or suburbs. There is nothing to do in that area and most of that area I wouldnt stay in unless I needed to do something in the immediate vicinity. Whats the matter, need a cigarette and cant smoke in Springpatch!!! Go to the Barrel Head, drink alot, and pretend you're in Chicago.
