Dogs are more loyal and depend on you more, so if you are looking for something to treat as a kid, get a dog. They are however more expensive and require more attention hence the kid part. But they will always love you and be loyal to you.

a cat is more independent so really cleaning up after it is like them saying hah clean it up. They are cheaper but they require more shots and get sicker easier and if your going to let it outside beware a lot of people hate cats.

I dont dislike them but i have a bird, dog, and cat but i like the bird better in terms of care you should try that they are loyal like a dog, independent in that they entertain themselves, and they are so easy to take care of

GOOD LUCK THEY ARE ALL GOOD CHOICES

That's a "Ruff" question! I would say that a Dog is the best choice, they are more attentive. Cats are good, but not all people like cats. If they are an indoor cat then you have a litter box to contend with. Dogs even indoor get let out. Both are going to be the same amount of work. But I rather let the Dog out then have to clean the cat box. As far as expense, they are about the same. If the dog eats more. The cat has food and litter. So I think it works out to about the same. Even though dogs might potty in the house until they are trained. Many cats have a clawing issue and if you don't get them declawed or provide good enough play things to work their claws on. They will shread your couch and what ever furniture they feel can help them sharpen up their nails. Dogs chew, but often you can train that out of them, Cats aren't as easy to train out of sharpening their claws on your furniture. I speak from experience - I have had many dogs and cats over the years. My cats I have now are outside cats, and the dog is an indoor dog. They are both fun, but like anything else they need attention and care. Are you sure the couple want to spend their first year together dealing with a pet?

If they are up to it I would say a Dog. Be sure to size the dog to where they live. If they have a small yard or small house, be sure not to buy them a big dog. Dogs do need to work off energy. so if they have a yard that would be a plus. If they like to take walks then a dog is great. They are also good for protecting the home too.

A newlywed couple that need a pet for inside would probably be better off with a cat.

A cat doesn't need to go outside to the 'potty'.

A cat can be left for longer periods of time and amuse themselves better than a dog which could bark all the time the couple is away.

Usually there are less medical problems with a cat ....but be sure it is neutered.

Either one you choose be prepared to keep it for the rest of its life which could mean up to about the next 20 years. If you are not willing to make a commitment to the animal, don't get one at all.

From experience, i know that cats are definitely better indoor pets. However, they are high maintenance and more demanding of your attention. Although cats cannot bark, they can mew, which in my opinion, is a lot more annoying if your cat is like mine, who mews very obnoxiously whenever he is trying to communicate his needs for food or a fresh litter box. Speaking of litter box, it's a simple yet annoying task to clean and it needs to be freshened quite frequently. (Imagine using the same port-a-potty over and over again). Even then, dogs, especially puppies, need to be potty trained, which is MUCH harder to do. My dogs STILL aren't house trained and i've had them for more than a couple of years. So a puppy probably wouldn't be ideal for an indoor lifestyle. Also, if you're dog is going to stay indoors a majority of the time, it's best to get a really small dog, since big dogs tend to go crazy ad chew up everything in the house or pee and poop and all that FUN stuff : ) . And when it comes to money, cats are little cheaper since they are at less risk of costing you a fortune for a veterinarian bill if they get hit by a car or something. Also, there are a few organizations nationwide that have certain days that they spay/neuter kittens for a just a dime. Well i can't think of much else to say but i hope i helped to convince you that cats are more ideal indoor pets!!! Good luck!

Well I would buy cat. Only because they are easy to take care of. Dogs are kind of hard work. Only because they need more things like cats. Also cats don't chew on alot of things. They also don't wreck their beds when they get one. I meen if you are a really close friend with a vet and they have a cat there and the cat is looking for a home then you should ask if you could have that cat. That is how I got my cat. I meen cats and dogs are both very CUTE but if I had to choose beteween a cat and a dog I would pick a cat. You should make sure that the people are alergic to them first, because if they are then you would have soent all that money for nothing. It isn't that much any way but still. I meen it is really all up to you. What ever you think is best. I am just giving my best answer. Tell me what you got when you got the animal!

Normally people tends to go with dogs as they can walk them and play with them. However, Cats are away much easier as they don't need to be babysat all the time. In other words, if you have dogs, you can't leave the house without either taking them with you or have someone to look after them (which could be a pain since no one has the time). Dogs are very demanding: in the morning you need to take them for a walk as well in the evening. So if you are tired or sick they don't understand that. You need to take them out. While cats, once you show them where their litter is and you forget about them. On the long run I think that cats are cheaper since you give them food in the morning (dry food) and you can give them a piece of treat (one per day). Dogs, they eat more and you need to buy them toys and bones which are very expensive.
Dogs and cats live almost to the same age.
I hope I have answered and covered all the points you have asked and all your concerns.

Good luck :)

Cats are less work, probably about the same as far as cost goes to maintain good health.

There is pluses and minuses for Dogs versus Cats.
With cats, you just keep a catbox in a semi private area and keep it changed regularly and most cats will be religious about using it.

Dogs you have to housebreak, which takes alot of time, patience, and consistency. You need a fenced yard or walk the dog several times a day.

If you get the right cat, it will be your friend and will mind you when you tell it "no!" But not all cats are obedient. Some cats will scratch your furniture when you are not looking, and jump up on the table and kitchen counters too. My cats have learned not to do this, but you know, you never know what they are doing when you are gone!

Dogs are much more obedient, but it takes alot of time and energy to train them.

I pick cats because I appreciate a certain degree of independence in my pets, since I am not home all the time.

Cat's are much cheaper. But they do live about 15 human year's cat box is smelly and messy. Dog's are usually very needy unlike cat's and you can't take off for a weekend without the dog or a dog sitter.Dog's usually have a shorter life span and cost a lot more. Now the reason I bring up life span is how long do you want to take care of a pet for a really long time.Your probably planing the have children and the pet is that much more.

If you are looking for less work I would choose a cat because they are more indapendent and they don't need to be house trained. They are probably cheaper because of the size and weight. Dogs are more work because they always need attention 24/7 and you have to walk them every day twice or more times. They are also a lot more hyper and they need good care all day.... but doesn't every pet

hmmm... a cat is generally easier and more intelligent, as you can let it roam free and it will come back to you so you dont have to waste time everyday walking it. whats cheaper? I think a cat would be a little cheaper, unless they're ill all they need if for you to give them food and water but they can walk themselves, no need for buying collar, dog house or anything fancy.
