Can I just tell you a little of what I know?

Artificial (man-made) fires can be started in any location which contains fuel, oxygen and a suitable ignition system. For examples:
A butane lighter in air started with a flint and steel spark.
A pile of leaves (in air) started with a match.
A natural gas stove burner (in air) started with a piezo-electric spark.
A gasoline / air mixture in a car engine cylinder started with a spark from a spark plug.
A diesel fuel / air mixture in a diesel engine started from the heat of compression.
A campfire started by rubbing two sticks together rapidly.
A forest fire started from a campfire.
A road-side fire started from a lit cigarette butt tossed out the car window on a windy day.
Hot muffler on a car igniting dried grass in the field where the car was parked.
Primer chemicals igniting gun powder is an explosion, but not considered a fire.

Natural fires also need fuel, oxygen (usually in the air) and a heat or ignition source. Examples:
Lightening striking a tree (in air).
An oil soaked rag in air (spontaneous combustion). The oil on the rag generates heat which ignites the oil and the rag.
Moist hay and coal (especially dust) can also generate enough heat to start a fire.

What stops a fire?
Remove the fuel (or burn it all up).
Remove the source of oxygen (smother).
Lower the temperature (spray with water).

Water has the ability to absorb a great amount of heat without burning.

I learned very young in school when the fire dept. came. They told us it takes 3 elements to make fire. 1. Air 2. Fuel 3. Heat. They taught us you take away one of those and no fire. Artificial fire is like some strange phenomenon. Cant help you on that one.

Hi there
To have fire you always need three ingredients, without one of these ingredients it is impossible to have a fire.....
1) Ignition=with out an ignition you can't get a fire going,be it a match,lightning,spark,heat ect
2) Fuel=it needs something to burn on,be it wood, paper, plastic, materials, yourself, rubber ect
3) Oxygen=without oxygen your fire will die.....

Without 1(Ignition) you won't have a fire
Without 2(Fuel) you won't have fire
Without 3(oxygen)you won't have fire
YOU ALWAYS NEED THOSE THREE TOGETHER TO CREATE FIRE........
You can pick richard as best answer.....he knows what he is talking about....

learn to use wikipedia...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fire

Fire is the rapid oxidation process that creates light, heat, and smoke, and varies in intensity. It is commonly used to describe either a fuel in a state of combustion (e.g., a campfire, or a lit fireplace or stove) or a violent, destructive and uncontrolled burning (e.g., in buildings or a wildfire). The discovery of making fire is considered one of the most important elements in the evolution of humankind, for it allowed higher hominids to ward off wild animals, cook food, and provide warmth as well as a source of light in darkness.

it burns, and it hurts, it can range from yellow, to orange to purple if you throw plastic in it which is no longer allowed... If you throw aerosols into it, they explode and when you build a bonfire, you have to check whether there are any children/hedgehogs buried underneath. If you get badly burned, you will end up looking like simon weston (well known burns person) rather scaly like a snake
