1 Meter Equals How Many Centimeters

2016-09-28 12:08:50 · answer #2 · answered by suzie 4 · 0 0

Hello,
One meter equals 100 centimeters. The metric system is based on the number 10. One centimeter is 0.01 of a meter. Every time you go from meters to centimeters or kilometers to meters always add a zero. If you are going down the metric scale remove a zero. Don't forget to always move the decimal point. Here is a simple saying on metrics. King Hector Doesn't drink cold milk. I think that's right. K- Kilometer, H- Hectometer, D- Decameter, D- Decimeter, C- Centimeter, M- Millimeter. I have a reference website that will help you understand metric conversions. Make sure my explanation works before you use it. I hope this helped.

The word centimeter will always give you the answer to this. Centi means century which always means 100. When added to meter, it always means "it takes 100 to make a meter"

that is why 50 centimeters is always half a meter.

Gotta love metric huh?

1 metre equals 100 centimetres

Here is the metric chart:

km|hm|dam|m|dm|cm|mm **this is in symbols

kilometers| hectometres| decametres| metres| decimetres| centimetres| millimetres **units themselves

When converting units, it is really quite simple when you go from large units on the above chart [i.e. metres to smaller units i.e. centrimetres] you multiply by 10 or move one decimal place to the right for each unit you move past i.e 1.0m x 10= 10 decimetres x 10 =100 cm

When you move from smaller units on the above chart to larger units you divide by 10 or move one decimal place to the left for each unit you move past i.e 100cm divided bt 10 = 10 dm divided by 10 =1m

Here are 2 more examples:
Larger units to smaller units 25 km = ________ dm
you move 4 units to the right so you move 4 decimal places to the right or you multiply by 10 000
Therefore the answer is 250 000 dm.
Smaller units to Larger units 16.7mm =______ m
you move 3 units to the left so you move 3 decimal places to the left or divide by 1 000
Therefore the answer is 0.016 7m
