My neighbor moved in a year ago after loosing everything in Hurricane Wilma, they moved in with some clothes and matresses. It has been a year and they haven't been able to buy furniture, they bought the kids new beds but they still sleep on the floor on old matresses that they were able to save from the hurricane , I asked them why don't you go buy furniture they don't have the money the little they had they spend it on the kids beds and christmas, there exact words were our kids first and us last. I want to raise money for them and go buy them furniture, I don't have the money to do it myself, I asked around the neighborhood and everyone turned me down. Does anyone have any idea were or what I can do to raise $2,000 dollars maybe just $1,000?

Been to local churches and they give me the run around, salvation army was no help at all. I don't care if the furniture is used just as long they have a couch to sit on and beds off the floor.

My neighbor found out that I was trying to help them, and they asked me to stop they don't want charity, and that they will get the furniture when they can afford it. They are very angry with me and don't want me to be their friend anymore. They said I have embarassed them, and is no ones business that they can't afford furniture. What should I do now, I apologize and they won't accept my apology.

Hopefully, they will come around to the fact that you were trying to help them. It is a pride thing. No one wants to admit to needing help. Leave them alone for a while and see what happens. Maybe you can send them a letter and explain that you only wanted to help them.

Any local Churches willing to help? They may have to settle for something used but that is better then nothing, if not a local church how about the salvation army or good will?
