Why shouldn’t Atheists celebrate Christmas? Their money is as good as anyone’s. Besides, mid-winter celebration was an established tradition for much of the world, and particularly among Europeans, for centuries before the time of Christ. Christians co-opted the holiday from others.

Claiming it to be a celebration of Jesus’ birth is bogus since Jesus was born (if he was born) in either the spring or fall. In any case, he definitely was not born in December, as the Bible clearing states that the shepherds were tending their flocks in the hills at the time. In winter, there is nothing in the hills for the animals to eat (except maybe snowballs or frozen dirt).

As for Christianity’s good moral values, they are not the exclusive domain or creation of the Christian religion. There is no idea, concept, or article of faith in Christianity that someone else did not think of first. What makes Christians think that it is exclusively their holiday?

Christmas is a cultural holiday, as well as a religious one, so many atheists do celebrate, but in a more secular way. There has long been a winter solstice festival in many cultures and Christmas is a continuation of that ancient tradition.

By the way "your" is a possessive pronoun, meaning "belonging to you." What you need to use in the context of your question is "you're," which is a contraction of "you are."

Glad to help.

I do. A lot of Atheists celebrate Christmas. One of my favorite holidays, in fact.

Just because I am an Atheist does not mean that I don't believe that Jesus ever existed. I just don't believe that he was the son of God.

I could take it or leave it, but I have two young nephews. Their mother (my sister) is a devout Christian and the holiday is important to her. I won't let our religious differences affect my relationship with her or her kids.

Also, traditionally Christmas is one of the few days of the year when the entire family gets to spend time together, and it would be an insult to everybody if I decided not to attend because I don't believe that God exists.

Everyone celebrates Christmas don't they? I mean all those gifts and all those Christmas parties at the office, and all those Christmas dinners. How can you not celebrate the birth of a baby?
Don't forget the cake and ice cream. and don't forget to sing Happy Birthday to the Lord.

it depends on you. but atheists don't really have a religion er they don't believe in God, so if you celebrate christmas then you are celebrating the birth of Christ. if you celebrate christmas, and your an atheist, just make up your own holiday during christmas.

Why wouldn't they celebrate Christmas? It's not a strictly-Christian holiday at all. For a large number of people, it has no religious significance whatsoever.

I wouldn't celebrate Christmas even if I were a Christian. To me it is just the winter solstice, a couple of days off by mistaken astronomy.

I'm not neccasarrily atheist...I just haven't found "my" religion yet, but I do celebrateChristmas because I belive in selfless love, which Jesus gave, and the joy of receiving.
I spend about 10 times as much on each gift as anyone person would, and don't really like to receive gifts but if someone gives me one, I am not rude, and thank them whole-heartedly.
