President Kennedy's legacy can be gleaned from his innaugural address. Some notable quotes from that memorable, but short speech (it only lasted 13 minutes) that represented at the time his vision for his presidency and ultimately now, the legacy he left us include the famous "ask not what your country can do for you, .. ask what you can do for your country." However, equally stirring, but no where near as famous, are the words which follow: " ..my fellow citizens of the world .. ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."

JFK concluded his innugural with a wonderful insight into his legacy: "..with a good conscience our only sure reward and history the final judge of our deeds .. let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking his help and his blessing .. but knowing that here on earth, God's work must truly be our own."

Beyond the innauguarl, President Kennedy's legacy is symbolized by several tangible memorials to his life and public service as a naval officer, U.S. Congressman, Senator and President including:

1. The John F. Kennedy Space Center. This facility was named in JFK's honor to commemorate his leadership in developing the US space program which culminated by successfully meeting the challenge he set in May, 1961 when he stated: "I believe this nation should commit itself, to achieving the goal .. before this decade is out .. of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the earth."

2. John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Located in Washington, DC, this world-class facility is a strong reminder of the value President Kennedy placed upon the arts and the personal distinction each of us may obtain through them. During his term of office, he made it a point to invite many of the most important performing artists of the day to the White House to perform. In doing this, JFK created an awareness in the country of the arts and the important role they play in all our lives.

3. USS John F. Kennedy. A large aircraft carrier, the Kennedy represents both strength, stability and progress which were notable characteristics of the policies of President John F. Kennedy. In addition, the Kennedy also is a reminder of how arguably JFK saved the USA and the World from nuclear holocaust when he courageously and skillfully forced the Soviet Union to remove offensive nuclear weapons from Cuba in October, 1962.
