If so, how do you know when or what that is? I left my job/career 3 years ago because I thought music was what I was meant to do with my life, but now I'm not so sure. After a year of study and a further 2 years of trying out different things, largely on my own (playing piano at retirement homes, street performing, occasional weddings etc) I feel the dream I had of being in a band (and perhaps making some sort of living out of it) is simply just that - a dream. So now after being out of work for so long and still not having a clue what else I would like to do with my life, I feel I've hit rock-bottom. Am back living with my parents, and at the age of 32 am embarassed and ashamed at been constantly hounded about what I plan to do with my life. Am reluctant to invest any more time pursuing this if it isn't even what I am meant to do, but am too afraid to do anything else in case I regret it - how crazy?!
I've been stuck in this rut for too long with no real idea what to do next...

Well, there'll be as many possible opinions as there are people, and none better than any other unless the thoughts are based on more than just the idle musings of individuals... so not knowing your thoughts on the Holy Bible as having the Truth or something less than that- I'll offer you what understanding comes from this historic book. We are born for a purpose, plan, and reason, which is not pre-written, fated, or destined, but only KNOWN by the Creator based on His perfect ability to see the future- not based on what He decides to do with your life--- but what YOU decide to do with it. In His wisdom, in concert with your personality, He 'downloads' into each person, gifts, talents, interests and passions... that can serve them well in life. Tune into whatever it is that rev's your motor- generates excitement and energy in your life... find a way to turn that energy and activity into a money maker (find a way to make it serve or help others to where they will pay for it)--- and you will have a fulfilling life.... not pre-destined for you... but known about you- before you were born. The only ACTUAL predestination that there is, has reference to born again believers, who, once having chosen Jesus as their Savior, will be destined in time and eternity to become just like Jesus- not similar- but fully conformed.
Hope this helps.

Your life is what you make it. There may be things that you would be happier doing, but it all comes down to your own choices. Since music isn't working out for you, try working at a different type of job. Don't forget the music--something may come up later on. But find something to do, and try new things. You may end up finding something you really enjoy, and if nothing else, it will allow you to move back out of your parents' house and be independent.

The entertainment field is not as easy as people think to get into. Tyler Perry was homeless for quite sometime, look at him now. Last year his net gross was 100 million dollars! William Shaner was too before his continued success. Read up on people who did succeed and how they did it.

Sometimes you have to keep your primary source of income to stay afloat. If you really feel this is your calling don't quit. Put yourself out there, only you can advertize your talents, until that break comes. Make tapes of yourself and send them out or get an agent....It is an election year, play at political events. Contact their offices...Play as an individual at library events, volunteer to play for Boys and Girls Clubs events. Try to get on Television and form your own band that has your own compositions that are unique. You cannot afford to do the same thing, everybody else does to be noticed.

I personally believe that everything comes down to fate and destiny. Some people have the most incredible luck and some people just seem to never get a break. Of course we can all do things to help out our fate, but if it's not meant to be then that's it.

I believe that we are! I thnk that we are able to make decisions that may deter us from that ultimate destiny but in the end we end up going back to what we have to! As for your decision to do music, you did what you thought was right, and there is nothing wrong with that. But think about this, on ur way to ur ultimate destiny, do you think that it was ment for u to go through this? Maybe it can be a test to determine if you can undertake what lies ahead. If you get through this (which i hope you do) there may be great things ahead for you! All i can say is to keep on doin what i think is right and you cant go wrong!

I didn't read all of that because it was too long, but I don't believe in destiny, I lost all that and hope a while back. I think we just make our liv.s the way it is, and try to survive with whatever comes along.

i think there are some lucky and unlucky people but it is u who is capable of drawing your own destiny. didnot u see u did what u wanted. u couldn't be successful but this is another issue. my advice is that believe in urself and dont be disappointed. if u think that destiny determines ur life, u will not have any motive or will to achive anythng.
so dont forget that 'chicken is the only one who can succeed by sitting'

fate is a false construct, but there's no way to disprove it. Someone can always say that fate caused something, no matter what the situation. It's even fate that I'm trying to disprove fate, right?
