Newborns usually sleep up to 18 hours a day. Me and my husaband would try to keep our daughter up during the afternoon so she would learn the difference between day and night and develop a better sleeping pattern. It worked for us, she started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks. Well she started out sleeping 6 hours straight, but that is WAY better than only 2 hours at a time.
