Uhh, it will probably have major effects on the baby. Like Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, delayed development... all kinds of bad things. You know if she doesn't miscarry and gives birth to the baby; they can test for drugs in the the babies system and you better believe that Social services will be called.

First of all if she doesn't treat the STD then it will be passed on to her child during childbirth. Secondly, the drugs and alcohol will cause lots of problems with the baby. It could be born with fetal alcohol syndrome or FAC, withdrawal from both the alcohol and drugs or the baby may die before being born. Yes this is possible. My boyfriend's ex, the mother of his child, did drugs and drank the whole time she was pregnant. Her first pregnancy she lost the baby because of the drugs and alcohol, the second-his child, was born at only a little over 3 pounds, went through withdrawal, it was hard, she just had another baby too less than a year later and it was born small and with withdrawal as well. You're friend needs to get help. If her doctor knows what she is doing she could be charged with trying to harm or kill her unborn child.

No offence but your friend sounds totally immature and doesn't seem in the slightest bit aware of the consequences of her actions. It'll have loads of effects on the baby. Drinking and smoking will affect the development of the baby and can cause premature labour, small growth and learning disabilities.

She doesn't sound in the right state of mind to be having a child and should look to into other avenues.

Also I'm not even sure she should be taking the Chlamydia treatment when she's pregnant and she should go back to her health adviser/GP - she can't leave it but it might not be safe for the baby.

Look up foetal alcohol syndrome - its not just while the baby is developing or just after birth, the effects are life shattering and for the whole of the baby's life - what alcohol does to a baby, toddler and older is horrendous

Also, (if you have to) drag her to a family planning centre and make her listen to what issues surround pregnancy and birth if you have an STD

What puzzles me is people like this have babies and people like me who dont drink or do drugs and gave up smoking as soon as i had the tiniest incling that i was pregnant lose the baby that would be loved so so much

If she wont do either of these things or give up on her habits then she is obviously too immature to have a child

The effect this drug and alcohol abuse will have on her baby is that it will probably be born as retarded and stupid as your friend appears to be.
People who are as selfish as her do not deserve to have children. If she hates this poor unborn child that much that she is prepared to put it through all this then perhaps she needs to seriously consider a termination.
Where exactly is the father in all this? If she even knows (in her drunken/drugged weekend haze who it is) then perhaps you could discuss your concerns with him and see if that might help.
However I can't imagine your friend, with the personality you have projected for her, being able to attract a half decent individual who might stand up and take some responsibility.
As there is very little in the way of real help you can offer (especially as she does not appear to want to help herself) I can only suggest that you spend the spare time you have trying to forge some new friendships with like minded individuals who actually give a crap about other human beings.

Good luck and I am sorry that you have to admit to having a best friend that appears to be such a complete B***H!!!

I feel bad for this baby already. My aunt and uncle adopted because they weren't able to have children and the girl that they adopted, her mother had been into drugs and alcohol all during the pregnancy. As a result my cousin is mentally handicap. She is now 23 but has a mentality of about a 12 or 13 year old. She will never hold a job, and will probably be in care of others for the rest of her life, all because of someones stupidity and selfishness.

This drug and alcohol abuse can lead to serious problems for the baby (if it doesn't kill it). Women who take drugs while pregnant can give birth to a baby that is addicted to the drugs and I don't want to even imagine what that would be like for a newborn. Drinking while pregnant can lead to Featal Alcohol Syndrome which can cause all sorts of birth defects. As with not taking her medication because she doesn't like the taste, that's just plain stupid and something she is going to have to get over for both her own health and the safety of the unborn child.

As far as the drugs and alcohol, this could cause fetal alcohol syndrome and various physical and mental problems with the baby. Also, he/she could could have developmental delays, learning disabilities, ADD, ADHD...ect. As far as the chlamydia goes, it can cause eye infections and pneumonia in the newborn baby. This all is assuming she doesn't have a miscarriage, which will probably happen. The best thing you could do for her and the baby is call CPS. She will be sent to detox and if she doesn't clean up her act, they will take away the baby.

Bad effects, for one thing if she has an STD when she gives birth it can be transmitted to the baby, and could even make the baby blind. The drugs and alcohol will cause the baby to be born addicted and also under-weight and possibly pre-mature. Some states have laws where you can report her to Child Protective Services, or even if you turn her into the police she might get arrested for the drug use and she might be put into a program to keep her clean and sober until she gives birth. Poor little baby, all babies deserve better than that!

Her habits of drinking, smoking, and not taking the medicine perscribed to her WILL have some effect on the baby. They can cause anything from simply being born premature to a complete miscarriage and possibly defects to the baby or problems with the baby's health.

Your friend NEEDS to stop smoking and drinking and begin taking her medicine. The chances of a healthy baby under those conditions are low and she is also putting herself at risk for other medical problems.
