it says combine like terms: 6x+2x=

the other says simplify each expression:8(c-5)??????????? i dont get it????

6x+2x= 8x

8(c-5) = 8c - 40 =
8c = 40
c = 40:8
c = 5
That's all.

if you simplifyed 8(c-5), you would get 8c-40. This is done by using the distrubitive property. Since 8c and 40 are different terms, they cannot be combined. Your final answer here would just be: 8c-40.

Like Terms - Terms that contain the exact same variables raised to the same exponents, possibly with different coefficients.
