I have a program that enables people to use several computers at the same time with a time limit. However, when alll computers are working at once I get an error "524" and the program shuts down. But, the computer goes on running. How do I get the computer to shut down when the program stops working?

Run your application as a service, there are options in VB to create it as one, and then you can have the computer shutdown when the service quits.

Edit
This link tells how to run as a service for older versions, I think the newer VB includes it, use the NT instructions.

Here is another link, talks about making it a service initially or changing

After it is a service, go to Start-->run-->services.msc Find your service, open it and on the recovery tab you can set various actions

Can't you trap the runtime error "524" and try to shut down the compter after the trap? Try doing it a couples of times to see if the error will repeat after the first time. Just a little test loop, maybe two to three loops. Just a thought. Sometimes even after the frist runtime, an app can have more errors... you just don't know about them because the program hasn't ran that far yet.

If software solutions such as running as a service are not a viable option then consider installing a Watch Dog Timer card.

A WDT is a hardware clock that is periodically reset by software. If the computer locks up the software will not reset the clock and the WDT will time out. Upon a time out the WDT will then reset/reboot the PC.

while you're making use of vista and it quite is in a compressed folder all you're able to do it double click it and it's going to open, if it replaced into zipped with winRAR then you definitely could use winRAR to open it. attempt double clicking the folder, if its winrar then winrar will open if its some thing else then which will open. you are able to extract the documents onto own workstation or information or whereever you % o placed the documents.
