In the UK:- The same answer applies to disabled people as it does to able bodied people. You can only use whatever force is REASONABLE in the circumstances. If the person that breaks in offers no violence, or threat of violence, sees you and leaves, you cannot hurt them, but you can use the minimum force you need to detain them. The only people that can decide if it's reasonable, is a jury, if it goes that far, so you'd need to be able to convince them, that what you did was appropriate to the circumstances.

Actually the self defense argument will work only if you had reasonable fear for your safety or that of your family AND there was no other way to extricate yourself from that danger (i.e. running away). You CANNOT shoot someone, wheelchair bound or not, simply to protect your stuff from being stolen. There are a few states that have passed legislation stating that all trespassers can be met with deadly force, but in court, the INTENT will be the key to a justified shooting or a few years in prison.

Unfortunately, any time a gun is used for self defense, anti-gun advocates will use that opportunity to make the victim the bad guy and the defendant the hero.

A person can use 'reasonable force' to protect themselves, indoors or out. But the law says this a subjective test, i.e. what YOU think is reasonable under the circumstances, and in the heat of the moment. You just have to be careful not to use a hammer to crack a nut.
The law looks like changing. The Norfolk farmer who shot dead burglars in his house had his sentence reduced on appeal.
Personally, my house was burgled whilst I was out. I found a 12" knife left behind. I hate to think what would have happened if I had come home whilst he was in there.
I still think 'An Englishman's home is His Castle'. If you climb in uninvited, you take the consequences. Other people will disagree.

In the UK, I think the law describes it as 'reasonable force' - that is a very open term. You have nothing but your instinct and judgement to use during incidents of crime - you should feel in your right to protect yourself though - just don't give them that one extra bash you so much want to do!

There was a news story this week about a man who found a young burglar ransacking his home - the owner picked up a blunt bladed knife of some sort and the burglar challenged him and had minor cuts to his hands - oh yes and guess what the burglar has taken him for assault. Shame on the lawyer and the legal aid that paid for that case to go through.

You are hard to understand. You are the disabled person or the disabled person is getting into your home?
I doubt if you could get away with shooting a disabled person in a wheelchair who breaks into your home. It also depends upon which state you live. If you are a wheelchair bound disabled person in AL and someone breaks into your home, then you shoot the guy and everyone will slap you on the back. In Washington, DC, you will go to prison for having a gun! On top of that, if the intruder kills you, he will NOT get the death penalty and will probably be back out on the street again in a few years. Go figure.

This is simple what you need is a good local builder. This I take it is a two story building.First you need the builder to put some patio door in your bed room.Get the builder to build a ramp(not to steep)from the road to your bedroom. Then if you are broken into. You will, not have to confront them.Just open the doors and whizz off out of harms way.You will be be able to out run them and get help. There are a few minor problems(ie having to live up stairs) with this granted, but I am sure you will over come them.I think there maybe some sort of grant you could get.I hope this has been a help to you.

In your own home, regardless of your condition or who the other person is or any circumstances, you are permitted to use any kind of force including deadly force. So if you're lying in bed and someone is walking down the hallway to your bedroom door, you can grab your shotgun and shoot through the door or wall or whatever and you're not liable for anything. I'm not sure it's the most rational decision particularly since it might be someone you know who broke in to check on you... but within the law, you can use any force.

this depends where you live.
In USA the State laws are different so you would need to be more specific!
In UK any reasonable force you can manage. Shooting-to-kill someone even if you have a gun license is considered excessive! A dog biting an intruder in your case should be OK. After all you are not in a position to fight them off yourself as most Jurers would understand!

keep a hand gun with you in your wheel chair, if sombody breaks into your house and do not idenify themselfs you can shoot them legaly. the fact your in a wheel chair will only help you in court if you did kill someone, what else are you supposed to do to defend yourself in a wheel chair ( no offense ) when sombody is breaking into your house. Get a gun, learn how to shoot good and how to safly handle a fire arm, go practicing once in a while, and get a gun permite, if you cant get a gun permit carry it anyway. Dont worry about the law when your life is in danger.

Just remeber. If you shoot and they live, they can sue. If you shoot and they die, the one still alive writes the story. Self-defence is an ify case these days, could go both ways. Better to make sure they are dead so they can't tell their side of the story.
