How long should we expect volunteers to risk life and limb before they are allowed to come home?

Let me make this clear for all to understand. I'm all for bringing back the draft. I think EVERY person turning eighteen or finishing high school should serve for two years.

Because poeple tend to like the idea of conflict as long as it's abstract to them. If the draft is enacted it will affect almost every family in the nation. The not my son/ daughter syndrome is now in place. It becomes too real. As long as we can keep it over there per se plenty will support the war that we supposedly according to Bush is not only over but we won.

Well, when the rich white kids in the Ivy League schools realized that their deferments were about to run out, they realized Vietnam and the draft was wrong.Even though when it was the poor and working class going,it was the most wonderful war ever.

And they're not about to let their kids get that close again.Of course the working class and the poor realize that they would be the first to go and the powers to be ain't gonna light that fuse.

And for those who keep saying that the military is meeting their goals,it's because they have been steadily dropping their standards, even allowing people with minor felonies in.Its been all over the news for weeks.Doesn't anybody pay attention to anything besides Fox?

I support the draft but not the war against Iraq.

I think the draft helps train young adults for a life of obedient slavery. (work)

Plus a basic training in defense is not a bad thing. It is inevitable that America will be attacked sooner or later. A general population that knows which end of a gun to point would help.

I don't believe it is that they support the conflict it is that they support thier troops. I support all my familiy and friends who are over there, yet i don't support the reason. The reason I and many feel is unjust and without merit. And many other reason's I will NOT get into here. As far as the draft, we have been there. Veitnam caused many casulties and for the longest time was just considered a police action. It was like spitting in the faces of our good men in uniform who have vowed to protect us. We should all support them while they are unfortunate to be over there, so they don't have anything to worry about while in the line of duty and so they come home safe.

Only about 34% of the American public support the war in Iraq & they are the ones making money from the continuation of the war! Were we to inact the draft, it would only allow our good President to send more of our young to some country, possibly Iran, to be killed. Please rethink your question, it is faulty. Americans support the troops & want them home, we do not support this Police Action that has killed over 3100 American young for no reason.

Theres more than enough people signing up to support the troop requirements in Iraq. It's not like theres a shortage, no need for a draft.

My brother and the majority of my friends are in the Army and Marines, while all of them fear death, if they had to choose a way to die, it would be dying for this country. Don't act like because a few troops oppose the Iraq war that all of them do.

Don't try to tell a soldier who wants to serve his country that he's wrong for doing so.

They thought it would be a romp in the park. Maybe it is good there is not a draft. Just think of how many people could be committed to that quagmire if there was a draft. Just like Vietnam.

exactly....put your fortune where your mouth is...bringing back the draft would be a good thing for america..it would give our young people a stake in this country that they now take for granted..and also give some of them a sorely needed education in the way the real world operates...not all of the world is as free and easy going as america, and a lot of people who have never been outside of our country and dont have a clue how repressive the rest of the world is think its all the same as america...it wouldsure cure a lot of this socialistic, lazy ideology that the leftists are teaching young people in school and college...and at the same time make them see what america is all about...we stand for the good things in life...freedoms that need to be sent around the world....

What makes you think so many people support the war in Iraq? The polls? Pffft. Don't believe the hype. The media is controlled.
