At 16 you can certainly take ballet up, but the problem will be to find a class that caters for beginners while not putting you with 5 year olds.
Most ballet dancers take up ballet at 4 or 5 years of age and then slowly progress to the senior levels.
By the time my daughter was16 she was working on her intermediate ballet exams which is the second highest exam in cecchetti ballet.
Perhaps if you just enquire at some of the local ballet schools you can find out if any of them run a class for beginners that is suitable for your needs.

Of course not! The most difficult thing may be finding an appropriate class for your age and skill level. Depending on where you live, there are usually adult dance classes available to people of all ages and skills. Also, if you live close to a university, they often have informal classes open to the public for a reasonable price. Depending on your aspirations (like, if you want to tour with a ballet company someday), it may be in your best interest to get private lessons so you can "catch up" to people your age faster. I took ballet and tap from age 4 to 12 and had to quit because we moved to the country and classes were an hour and half drive away. When I went to college, I took it up again and had some classes with girls who had never danced before and they did fine (with lots of practice). Ballet especially takes lots of discipline and control and patience. I hope you find a good teacher who can get you piroutte-ing in no time!

It's definitely not too late to try ballet - it's great for improving your strenth, flexibility and posture. But don't get your hopes up about becoming a prima ballerina.

it's never too late to start dance, if you really want to try it, then go for it, just don't get too committed before you find out you don't like it! Try local studios and see if they have beginning adult classes. Good luck!
