I have asked many many people who they think it is and it keeps coming back to either 1. Damon Hill (NO) 2.David Coultard(NO).

The identity of the first Stig was revealed to be Perry McCarthy when his book Flat Out, Flat Broke was published in 2003. McCarthy is a former Formula 1 driver and test driver for the Benetton, Arrows and Williams teams, and also tested for BMW F1.
edit: my bad, that was an earlier one. wiki says that its some guy called ben collins, a sportscar driver. and that s quoted from some guy off a program called Pit Lane in new zealand

Think Michael Gambon said a while back that the Stig had a French accent, so my guess is the Swiss dude Alain Menu. If not, some retired GT driver like Steve Soper, Derek Bell etc. But maybe it's Tiff hiding his face from channel five. Hmmm...

The Black Stig (series one million-3) became Perry McCarthy (F1 attempt driving force) ,he mentioned so in his e book. i think of the white Stig (series 3 onwards) is performed by using alternating drivers. ideas- Julian Bailey, Darren Turner, Ben Collins, Mark Webber
