we would like to go somewhere in Europe that is fairly cheap to get to from the UK. We would like to see something a little of the beaten track and preferably really cheap. does anyone have any suggestions at all?

We are probably on a budget of around £400 pound (£200 each) and up to two weeks, and on kids. Thanks for the answer so far.

take a cheap flight to llublijana, slovenia from london stansted. stay a couple of nights - really cool city. take train to zagreb, and start exploring your way around croatia. take a tent to reduce costs, or use hostels. grreat cities, gorgeous countryside, and you can't beat the beaches onthe dalmatian coast. get as far as dubrovnik, and then bus your way to zagreb and then train back to catch your flight home

Eastern Europe in summer is really warm, pretty off the beaten track and great atmosphere.
Most people also speak a little bit of english as well.
It's also very cheap if you compare prices.
Cities like Prague, Budapest are cool.
For more beach stuff try Bulgaria.

Depending on what kind of budget you are on, if I didn't have kids i would pack a tent, some bikes and get on a ferry and see where we would end up obviously you would need a bit of background info and a bit of an inkling but what an adventure.

Take a safari in Kenya its great and really hot in the summer and pretty much all year round. OR go island hopping in Greece just book flights out there the get hotels when you get there jump on the ferry to go from island to island whenever you like - i did it and it's great fun.
