i went to the beach today with my highschool bio class and my own bio teacher didnt know how to answer, so now im asking you! hehe kay thanx

Sand is made of tiny angular pieces of quartz, feldspar and mica that have been crushed over thousands of years, and carried by wind and water.

There's a reason sand is by the ocean...

It's the result of water washing up against rocks from the ground. The rocks are eroded down to smaller pieces over time; like rubbing your fingers against a sugar cube. So as the tide washes up and down the shore, eventually, its all eroded down to sand.

a lot of different stuff. depends on where u go. usually its just crushed up particles of rock. some of it is silicon, (if you go into the desert you can find small glass shards, where lightning has struck and melted it into glass). on a beach it'd probably be mixed up with crushed shells and stuff.
