Whomever said you can't plug in a GameCube controller doesn't know what they are talking about. You can even plug in a DanceDance Revolution Mario Mix dance pad if you want to. There are four GameCube plug-ins on the top of the Wii console. You just have to lift the flap. Be aware, though that if you are going to play any GameCube games, you have to have a GameCube memory card and insert it into Slot A (or B, I guess), also on top of the console, but under a different flap.
I bought a Classic Controller but haven't used it once. Most, maybe all, of the games that you will download through your Wii system can be played with the Wii remote. You just hold it sideways and use the "plus pad" and a couple of buttons (remember, they're old, simple games). GameCube controllers...I use them a fair bit for the EA Sports games. Plug them into the top, but maybe look into getting extentions. I find the cables way too short.

First, they CAN be plugged into the Wii - don't listen to the first few answers here. There is a flap on the top edge of the case (if you have it upright in its stand). Open that up, and there are slots for GC controllers and memory cards too - you can start up with your old game saves, if you want! Enjoy!

It is impossible to do this, you need to purchase a classic wii controller which is wireless.

you can't, you have to buy a classic controller separate from your system, the controllers are not backwards compatible
