I'd buy neither, I'd find some property with streams or water passing and build later.

It depends on how much you can afford to keep it up and taxes with insurance at the end of the year.
House = mowing lawns, keeping the outside clean, etc (a lot more chores).
But you get more room. So if you have kids. House.
If you are buy yourself get a condo.
Condo = paying fees but someone else takes care of the grounds for you.

Not sure where you live, but around here even nice condos are notoriously hard to resell. Even though real estate has been booming the last few years, a friend of mine just sold a condo for $30k less than he paid for it 5 years ago. Buy a house, but NOT a NEW house.

It depends on what market you are in and if you plan on living in it or not. Personally I would buy a house. Having my own land is very rewarding. You have more responsibility with taking care of the maintenance but that is more rewarding than dealing with a homeowners assoctiation and paying dues for someone else to do a lack luster job. Plus you don't have to worry quite so much about your neighbor's lifestyles.

Condo. That way someone else would be responsible for the maintenance and all the yard work that I would not be able to do for lack of time enjoying the rest of the money that I got.

I'd buy a house, condo's don't appreciate fast enough and there is always some jerk who weighs 600 lbs that lives above you and walks the floor all night.

It may depend on where it's located, but right off the top of my head I'd say a house. That's the only true way to have privacy when you want it!
